"A New Year of Service" by Rich
Zimmerman
As
we enter a brand new calendar year I want you to consider how
you serve. There are many different ways and places to serve
others--some, but not all of them in the church. Some people
deliver meals on wheels one day per month. Some people teach
Sunday school. Some people volunteer at the hospital. Some people
tutor children in reading. Some people hold a political office
or serve as treasurer for a non-profit organization. Are you
worn out with all of your volunteer efforts? Maybe you need to
end one or some of your commitments. Are you feeling a desire
to give of your time and talents to some new effort? Consider
joining one of the many servant teams in our congregation. Think
a moment about your interests and skills. What part of the churchıs
life matters the most to you?
If you care about children, join us on the Christian
Education commission.
If you like music or have ideas for worship
maybe the Music and Worship commission is for you.
If you are a party waiting to happen, the Fellowship
Commission needs your ideas.
Maybe the thought of spending a weekend with
17 Jr. Hi students appeals to you. I think we could find a place
for you on our youth leadership team.
If you feel strongly that everyone who visits
the church should be met with a warm welcome and introductions
to people as well as an invitation to get involved in our activities,
join the Membership and Outreach Commission.
These are just some examples of ways to serve.
If you are not sure where your skills and talents and desires
meet the churchıs need, Iıd love to talk with you. God made you
just the way you are so that you would be indispensable to your
friends in the church.
Hereıs hoping the new year brings new challenges
to you as you respond to the promptings of the Spirit to serve.
In Christ,
